COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an introduction to the forms, vocabulary, and grammatical usage of the koine Greek. Students will learn the alphabet, important vocabulary and grammar as it relates to understanding the text and the use of major tools for original language study.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will be able to gain:

  1. Knowledge:

    In completion of this course, the students are acquainted with Greek vocabularies and the grammatical usage of biblical Greek language, designed to give them the tools necessary for translating the Greek New Testament. Thus, it helps the students to comprehend the basic biblical Greek grammar.

  2. Skills:
    The course has an overall aim to enable students to develop and practice the essential skill of interpretation of New Testament texts in their original language. Therefore this course basically develops the skills to identify the basic grammatical forms of the koine Greek and articulate the understanding of the basic grammatical forms used in Greek to translate the basic Greek phrases and sentences.
  3. Attitude:
    In completion of this course, the students will be passionate about the original language of the Bible, which drives them to interpret the text properly. They will be able to use the materials from the NT in their teaching/parching ministry.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. The students are expected to attend all Lecture sessions. 
  2. The students must take major exams this term to demonstrate the knowledge of grammar and their ability to translate Greek phrases and sentences. 
  3. In addition to these major exams, the students must demonstrate the knowledge of Biblical Greek Vocabulary, grammar, and syntax during regular quizzes. 
  4. The students must demonstrate the ability to translate Biblical Greek sentences and to parse assigned words through the homework exercises. At the conclusion of each lecture period, exercises for each lesson are specified. These assigned exercises must be completed for the next period. 

COURSE METHODOLOGY

Reading the Assigned Lessons: Reading assigned portions for each Lecture meeting is compulsory for each student and must be done before he/she comes to the Lecture. 

Writing Assignments: The students should do written assignments for each session before they meet in Lecture.

Memorization of Notes: The students should memorize the material assigned each week before they meet in the Lecture.

Quiz: Each Lecture will start with a quiz which will be followed by a Lecture.

Please note that 60 percent of the grade is based on quizzes and short exams. It is critically important that you do the quizzes on time.
