COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in Hebrew I and provide students with a strong foundation in Hebrew grammar. The primary focus is on enabling students to translate and exegete various genres of the Hebrew text effectively. It is an online course tailored for those who are learning Hebrew grammar through remote instruction. Topics covered include in-depth study of Hebrew strong and weak verbs, sentence structure, syntax, and more.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will be able to gain:

  1. Knowledge:
    Introduce students to the seven conjugations of Hebrew verbs and their usage.

    Expand students’ understanding of Hebrew grammar and verb forms.

  2. Skills:

    Develop students’ ability to recognize and use Hebrew verb forms effectively.
    Enhance students’ proficiency in handling biblical vocabularies and texts.

  3. Attitude:
    Foster an appreciation for the importance of textual studies.

    Instill the value of understanding Biblical languages for exegeting and interpreting the text.
    By the end of the course, students will have acquired a working knowledge of Hebrew verb conjugations, their role in grammar, and biblical vocabularies. They will be equipped to engage with the Hebrew text more confidently and appreciate the significance of linguistic studies in biblical exegesis.

Course Evaluation

2. Vocabulary Test 

The test will assess your vocabulary knowledge. The test will take place every Saturday during the live session. The question paper will be sent to all participants in the signal group. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper. After the test is over, you will be given an additional five minutes to scan your answers. Send your scanned or digitalized answer sheet to the course instructor’s signal as soon as the test and scanning period are over. Make sure your answers are clear and legible to avoid any issues with grading.

Instructions:

  1. Ensure that you have access to a stable internet connection before the test begins.
  2. Sit in a well-lit room where you won’t be distracted.
  3. Remove any study notes or books from your surroundings during the test.
  4. Keep your microphone enabled throughout the test.
  5. Position the camera to show your face, desk area, and immediate surroundings.
  6. Leaving the testing area during the test will result in test cancellation.
  7. In case of any difficulties during the test, it may be repeated, but the question paper grade will be decreased by one grade.

Please make sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth and fair testing experience.

3. Exercise 

Hebrew II exercises are adapted from Kelley, Page. Biblical Hebrew: An Introductory Grammar, 1992. The exercise questions are directly related to the lessons. Starting from day one, you will have access to the exercise questions. Please submit your answers on the designated day. After submitting your answers, you will be able to access the explanations for the exercises.

Instructions for Submitting Exercise Answers:

    1. After completing each chapter, you are required to submit the exercises from that chapter.
    2. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper or digitally, ensuring they are neat and legible.
    3. Scan your completed exercise sheet or take clear pictures of each page using a scanner or a smartphone.
    4. Save the scanned images or photos on your computer or device for easy access during submission.
    5. When it’s time to submit, log in to the course platform or learning management system.
    6. Locate the assignment submission section for the respective chapter.
    7. Click on the appropriate assignment link for the exercises of that chapter.
    8. Upload the scanned images or photos of your exercise answers as a single file or multiple files, depending on the submission guidelines.
  • Double-check that all your answers are visible and clear in the uploaded file(s).
  1. Click the “Submit” button to complete the submission process.

Additional Information:

  1. Ensure that you complete all the required exercises from the respective chapter before moving on to the next class.
  2. If you encounter any difficulties while completing the exercises, seek clarification or assistance from the instructor or teaching assistant.
  3. Attend the particular lecture where the answers for the exercises will be explained to ensure a better understanding of the material.
  4. Pay attention to any feedback or comments provided by the instructor on your exercise submissions to improve your performance.

4. Final exam 

There will be a final exam in the last week of Hebrew II. The exam questions will be sent to candidates who have completed all the course requirements.
